Galatasaray kick off attacking the Kop.

1 mins: The game begins explosively as Umit Karan crashes to the turf theatrically following a harmless collision with Riise. However his play-acting does not impress the Portuguese referee and play continues.
7 mins: Owen is fouled by Ergun and from a free-kick in a central position 25-yards from goal Hamann is inches away from giving Liverpool the lead, drilling a low effort through a packed defence and narrowly wide of the left hand upright.
9 mins: A Gerrard free-kick from a similar position is comfortably gathered by Mondragon in the Galatasaray goal.
13 mins: Kirkland is forced to tip a long-range effort from Umit Karan around the post as Turks press forward menacingly.
17 mins: The ball is in the back of the Liverpool net but whistle had earlier been blown for offside and Umit Karan's effort was ruled out.
24 mins: Berkant tests Kirkland an in-swinging free kick from the left, which the Reds keeper clutches with ease.
26: Hasas Sas feigns a head injury following a collision with Hamann. Play is waved on but the Turks promptly kick the ball out of player so that he can receive treatment.
28 mins: Hasas Sas, having made a miraculous recovery, blazes a shot high and wide of Liverpool's goal - much to the delight of the Kop.
31 mins: Riise stings the fingers of Mondragon with a blistering free-kick from way outside the Galatasaray penalty box.
35 mins: The tackles are flying in thick and fast and Galatasaray officials are incensed as play continues despite two of the their players rolling around injured.
38 mins: Emre is shown the yellow card for a wild tackle from behind on Owen and is now ruled out of the return in Istanbul next week.
39 mins: A glancing header by Hyypia comes back off the post as Liverpool go close to an opening goal.
41 mins: Hamann's long-range effort is pushed over the crossbar by Mondragon and moments later the German midfielder goes close again with a shot that the keeper has to turn around the post.
42 mins: From the resultant corner a goalmouth scramble ensues and the visitors somehow manage to clear the ball off the line.
45 mins: Fleurquin has his name taken for a foul on Riise.
49 mins: Murphy almost opens the scoring with a spectacular shot from 25-yards out that sailed narrowly past Mondragon's right hand post.
55 mins: Liverpool are given a scare as Umit Karan's left-footed drive from a tight angle flies narrowly over the bar.
56 mins: Umit Karan is ruled out of next week's game after picks up a booking for a foul on Xavier.
59 mins: Hamann tries his luck with another long-range free-kick but fails to get his effort on target.
63 mins: Liverpool continue to threaten and Heskey heads a Riise corner from the right onto the top of the Galatasaray crossbar.
64 mins: Owen shoots high into the Kop with a speculative shot from the edge of the Galatasaray box.
65 mins: Murphy does well to bea t two Galatasaray defenders inside the visitors penalty area but after doing the hard work he frustratingly drags his shot wide.
66 mins: Smicer comes on to replace Carragher and as a result Riise move to left back.
71 mins: Gerrard is worryingly stretchered off following a tangle with a Galatasaray player and McAllister replaces him immediately.
80 mins: Sozkesen replaces Hasan Sas for Galatasaray.
81 mins: Hamann goes close again with a dipping shot that ends up on the roof of the Galatasaray net.
82 mins: Mondragon denies Liverpool again this time saving a low shot from Owen.
